A&B Process Systems...35 years in Stratford
Jan 05, 2009

Stratford, WI – January 5, 2009– What started in 1973 as a two-person team installing stainless steel process systems for Wisconsin’s dairy industry has, in the last 35 years, grown to become A&B Process Systems – a national leader in the design, fabrication, automation, testing and installation of high quality and high purity stainless steel process systems for the pharmaceutical/personal care, food/beverage, dairy, and renewable energy/ethanol and industrial markets. “In just 35 years,” notes Glenn Linzmeier, President and COO of A&B Process Systems, “A&B has grown to 420 employees, with eight plants, 250,000 square feet of manufacturing capacity, and a state-of-the-art Test Center. We’ve proven ourselves to be an exceptional partner capable of providing our customers with leading edge technologies and custom-designed skidded systems.”

In 1973, Ajay and Bill Hilgemann started A&B, located in Stratford, Wisconsin, in order to service the area’s growing dairy industry. Within five years, A&B began custom-designing process system solutions for a variety of industries, and built its first manufacturing facility.

By 1982, A&B established itself as a single-source supplier by broadening its services to include
• process design and engineering
• process automation and controls
• equipment fabrication
• quality assurance/control
• and system installation.

To meet increasing demands, a second plant was constructed in 1991, as well as a third plant in 1998, to address the need for large-scale design and fabrication both domestically and internationally, especially for the ethanol industry. Since 2002, plants 4, 5 and 6 have been constructed – specifically designed for the fabrication and testing of skids, components, high purity systems.

Beginning in 2005, A&B joined Ethanol as a sponsor of the Indy Car in an effort to promote fuel-efficient alternatives on a global stage. In 2006, with A&B again a sponsor, the IndySeries® progressed to racing on a 10 percent ethanol/90 percent methanol blend. In 2007, the IndySeries switched to a 100 percent fuel grade ethanol to power its cars, and A&B sponsored the Rahal Letterman Racing Team Ethanol IndyCar. As part of its initiative to raise community awareness concerning the benefits ethanol, A&B challenged Stratford-area students to write on the topic, “The Impact of Ethanol on our Economy and Environment,” as part of its annual scholarship competition designed to recognize the efforts of students committed to forward thinking.

A&B’s latest innovation is a state-of-the-art 54,000 square foot facility designed with the input of A&B customers in need of the highest surface purity for large tanks and super skids. Erected in 2007, and designated the new Plant 1, this facility will only manufacture stainless steel process vessels to ensure no compromise or contamination of the polished vessels and piping. This is of critical importance to our pharmaceutical customers.

Thirty-five years later, A&B Process Systems is a recognized single-source process systems partner capable of providing customers with high quality stainless steel process skids/super skids, tanks, auxiliary equipment and piping systems. “We have always incorporated the latest technologies, as well as customer feedback, into our manufacturing process and testing facilities,” concludes Linzmeier. “Because of that, we have short lead times, our clients have less downtime and we help our clients get their products to market faster without sacrificing quality. It’s a win-win situation for every one of our customers.”
