A&B Process Systems manufactures a variety of sanitary agitators and mixers for custom agitation systems:

Closed Bottom Agitation Systems

  • Used for rapid and uniform incorporation of dry and liquid ingredients
  • Creates a deep vortex, exposing dry ingredients directly into the agitator blades
  • Standard agitator for bakery applications
  • Ideal for soluble, dry ingredients that want to float on the surface
  • Primarily used with light viscosity products

Products best suited for this type of agitation include:

  • bakery sponge
  • gums and stabilizers
  • yeast slurries

Agitator speeds are approximately 430 rpm maximum. Closed bottom agitators can be furnished with single or two-speed electric drives and variable electric or hydraulic drives ranging from 1 to 20 hp, and impeller diameters from 12 to 24” o.d. Adjustable baffles are available for a vigorous blending action but will reduce vortex action.

Open Bottom Agitation Systems

  • Used for rapid and uniform incorporation of dry and liquid ingredients
  • Open bottom feature pulls the product off of the cone bottom and prevents the settling of solids
  • Ideal for non-soluble or hard-to-dissolve dry ingredients

Products best suited for this type of agitation include:

  • sugar solutions
  • milk and whey powders
  • fruit drinks
  • ice cream re-run

Agitator speeds are approximately 430 rpm maximum. Open bottom agitators can be furnished with single or two-speed electric drives and variable electric or hydraulic drives ranging from 1 to 20 hp, and impeller diameters from 12 to 24” o.d. Offset – No Baffle Agitation Systems

  • Used mainly for blending of ingredients with mild agitation
  • Off-center agitator position provides blending without the need of a baffle
  • System results in good mixing and solid suspension

Agitator main speeds are approximately 97 rpm with single or two-speed drives ranging from ¼ to 2 hp.

Wide Sweep with Baffle Agitation Systems

  • Used for mild agitation of product
  • Forces product down against the bottom and out and up the sides with a fixed baffle assuring the blending action
  • Primarily used with light viscosity products

Products best suited for this type of agitation include:

  • bakery sponge
  • gums and stabilizers
  • yeast slurries
  • sugar solutions
  • milk and whey powders
  • fruit drinks
  • ice cream re-run

Agitator maximum speed is approximately 44 rpm and can be provided with single or two-speed drives ranging from 1/3 to 3 hp.

Total Sweep with Baffle Agitation Systems

  • Used in conjunction with flat or inverted dish bottoms
  • Affords a sweeping action over the heat exchange surface allowing maximum heat transfer
  • Provides a gentle mixing and blending enhanced by a fixed baffle

Light viscosity products best suited for this type of agitation include:

  • light sauces
  • fruit drinks
  • milk products
  • creams
  • soups and gravies

Heavier viscosity products best suited for this type of agitation include:*

  • pizza sauce
  • pet foods
  • pie fillings
  • sour cream

*Can be used on heavier viscosity products providing heat transfer is not critical and a cone bottom is used.

Agitator maximum speed is approximately 25 rpm and is available with single or two-speed electric drives ranging from 1/2 to 7-1/2 hp.

Total Sweep without Baffle Agitation Systems

  • Used in conjunction with cone bottom tanks for complete emptying and mild agitation of viscous products
  • Primarily used in blending products where foaming is a problem

Products best suited for this type of agitation include:

  • light or heavy sauces
  • milk products
  • creams

Agitator maximum speed is approximately 25 rpm and is available with single or two-speed electric drives ranging from 1/2 to 7-1/2 hp.

Scraper Blade with Baffle Agitation Systems

  • Used in conjunction with cone bottom tanks on products of a very viscous and tenacious nature
  • Scraper blades remove product film from side and cone surfaces greatly enhancing the heat transfer
  • Mild agitation of the product is enhanced by the fixed baffle which also provides a blending and gentle folding action

Products best suited for this type of agitation include:

  • pet food

  • gravies
  • bakery sponge
  • heavy creams

Agitator maximum speed is 20 rpm, available with single or two-speed drives ranging from 1 to 7-1/2 hp.

Heavy Products Scraper Blade Agitation Systems

  • Used in conjunction with cone bottom tanks for gentle intermixing and solid suspension of heavy products
  • Scraper blades afford the maximum heat transfer
  • Twin baffles provide gentle folding, shearing and blending action
  • Primarily used in blending viscous and tenacious products

Products best suited for this type of agitation include:

Agitator maximum speed is approximately 35 rpm, and is available in single, two, or variable speed drives ranging from 1 to 7-1/2 hp.

Vertical Bar Heavy Product Scraper Blade Agitation Systems

  • Used in conjunction with cone bottom tanks for gentle intermixing and solid suspension of heavy products
  • Scraper blades afford the maximum heat transfer
  • Vertical bars provide a gentle folding of product
  • Primarily used in blending viscous products

Agitator maximum speed is approximately 35 rpm, and is available in single, two, or variable speed drives ranging from 1 to 7-1/2 hp.

Scraper Blade/Squirrel Cage Combination Agitation Systems

  • Used for products that require both high-speed mixing and thorough gentle blending during the cooking and/or cooling function
  • Dual agitation is provided to achieve maximum performance
  • High-speed squirrel cage agitator is used for the rapid dispersal and incorporation of ingredients into the product
  • Scraper blade agitator operating at low rpm moves the product over the heat exchange surface while continuing the blending action
  • Slow gentle agitation assists in keeping the ingredients in suspension
  • Combination agitator speeds would be identical to the standard scraper blade and squirrel cage when used separately

Counter Rotating Scraper Blade Agitation Systems

  • Used for light or heavy viscous products for rapid mixing and shearing action
  • Vigorous or gentle action of the agitator makes it best suited for most non-tenacious products
  • Full capabilities of this agitator are yet to be explored; speeds and hp can be multiples, depending upon product

Counter Flow Dual Agitators Agitation Systems

  • Used for rapid incorporation and mixing of condiments into a heavy base product
  • Originally designed for salad dressing applications
  • Agitators are capable of handling other products such as fruit drinks and slurries

Hydraulic variable speed motors at a maximum of 100 rpm are used.

Blade 45° Turbine Agitation Systems

Used for mixing and maintaining solid suspension of products similar to:

  • whey concentrates
  • salad dressing bases
  • sauces
  • gravies
  • starch slurries
  • pudding mixes

Agitator speeds are 96 rpm maximum, and are available in single or two-speed drives ranging up to 20 hp.

Ladder Type Total Sweep Agitation Systems

  • Used for gentle blending and solid suspension of products similar to whey concentrates, heavy creams and condensed skim milk
  • Sweeping action provides good heat transfer with cross blade providing a gentle lifting and solid suspension

Agitator speeds are 15 rpm maximum, available in single-speed drives ranging up to 20 hp.

Helical Agitation Systems

  • Used for gentle agitation, solid suspension and good heat transfer for products similar to whey concentrates and heavy creams

Agitator speeds are 9 rpm maximum and single speed drives up to 20 hp.

Ladder Type Heavy Products Scraper Blade Agitation Systems

  • Used on very viscous and tenacious products
  • Provides a gentle mixing action and good heat transfer with solid suspension
  • Agitator is primarily used in a citrus tank so it is excellent for high degree Brix solutions

Agitator speed is 20 rpm maximum, and is available in single or two-speed drives ranging up to 20 hp.

Horizontal Impeller – Vertical Storage Agitation Systems

  • Used for mild agitation and solid suspension in vertical storage tanks with up to 25,000-gallon capacity
  • Primarily used on milk products but can be used on light oils and light syrups

Agitator speeds are 175 rpm maximum and available in single or two speed drives, ranging up to 5 hp.

Horizontal Impeller/Air Agitation Combination Vertical Storage Agitation Systems

  • Used primarily on 25,000-gallon tanks and up
  • Results are the same as using the horizontal impeller alone, except air agitation provides continuous and complete action up to the top

Agitator speed is approximately 140 rpm maximum, and is available in single or two-speed drives ranging up to 5 hp.

  • Primarily used for storage and blending of milk products
  • Can be used for light oils, syrups and fructose
